Ashiana Humanitarian Network was proud to welcome participants to their second Youth Activate! workshop made possible with the generous support of the City of Stirling.
This workshop addressed topics including:
(a) Tenancy law – your rights at home, presented by Amber Cooper of Encompass Legal and Community Services
(c) Cyber safety – including bullying and scams – also presented by Amber Cooper
(d) Workplaces – your rights at work – presented by Julie Grant of Resolve Legal Solutions
(e) Credit agreements – your rights and duties in online credit contracts and when buying your first car – presented by Marian Lamattina of Lamattina Legal.
The workshop was held on 29 November 2025 at the Tuart Hill Community Centre, as part of the City of Stirling, and was the recipient of the City’s Locally-led and Creative Communities grant in 2025. The workshop focused on how young people from refugee and humanitarian background could be supported to learn about their rights and responsibilities in the law, so that they could self-advocate and also share their knowledge with their families and others in the community. It allowed people to ask questions about their personal experiences and to realise that they are not alone, particularly where the law can be more challenging when cultural, linguistic and trauma circumstances are involved. It also allowed Ashiana to show what services and supports are available to support the community, through Community Legal Centres, private legal services and other community services and to encourage young people to drive greater understanding and awareness in their communities and get involved.
Our thanks go to long term partners of Ashiana, Cyril Jackson Senior Campus, Ishar Multicultural Women’s Health Services and North Metropolitan TAFE who have offered their support for Ashiana to hold these events, and to our speakers from Encompass Legal and Community Services, Resolve Legal Solutions and Lamattina Legal.
